Brazilian Urban Politics (BUP)

The urban mass protests in June 2013 shook the political elites of Brazil. The outside world was amazed to see a football-crazy nation being more focused on politics than on sports during the FIFA Confederations Cup. Where is Brazil heading in the wake of the FIFA World Cup 2014 and Olympics 2016? This is the question to be addressed by the BUP blog and website.

The website will tap into recent and on-going research projects. The blog will invite scholars in Brazilian studies to present their understanding of current developments in Brazil, where more than 80 % of the population lives in urban areas.

The BUP blog and website is an extension of the research project “Cities against Poverty – Brazilian Experiences”, which is a result of a generous research grant from the Latin America programme of the Research Council of Norway (RCN).
